Why is it so difficult to have your site indexed?

18-03-2008

My first attempt at indexing my page on Google was swift. I did what we always do. Register on Google webmasters, submit our sitemap, place a link on a frequently indexed website... a social site. Bam, my page was found, 2 days, I'm always amazed.

But this begs the question, Now what? What we've always been told is to start optimizing our page. This is called on page and off page optimization. Which is fine for on page, because this is controlled in-house, by our team of experts. It just involves implementing various techniques in making your page as visible to search engines as possible. But what about off page? This would entail largely link building. For those who don't know what this is, in a nutshell, it's based on Google's algorithm trying to figure out your webpage's impotents relative to everyone else's webpage's. This to me is a counter productive approach. Here we are trying to compete against some of the best in the industry, while in fact we have to call on them (partner with them) to link back to us in order for us to get ahead. I find this can become very frustrating at times.

The answer to this question then becomes quite simply patience and perseverance. Link building and a higher page rank doesnt come overnight. You have to strategically and deliberately synchronize your attempts with those of the latest Google search trends and industry normal in the hope and knowledge that all your hard work will pay off soon.
